Legacy of Fire!

Rising in the Pyramid of Shadows
Or how we bumble up the stairs

We finish off level one of the pyramid of shadows by finding the last of Garron Vosh’s men and then we go up the stairs. Many hijinks ensue. Ending with foul spawn and a Grue.

Diary entry (written in Kelesh)

Well, it turns out that werewolf bites start making you foam at the mouth. There we were after a hard day of adventuring, gathered around the fire and sharing the delicious stew I had made. It was dragon goulash with radishes with some substitutions. Now, I am used to my friends showing appreciation for my culinary skills. Tala breaking a table in half with a good spasm. Hawada projectile vomiting. Yarar using cure poison.

But when most of us started foaming at the mouth with a crazed and demented look in our eye, I thought I had reached a new culinary height. But alas, it was only the fever of a magical disease.

I was very disappointed but it gave me the opportunity to make chicken soup for everyone. I mean I only had to substitute four of the nine ingredients. I already had water, salt, pepper, oregano and basil. It is amazing how close to making artificial celery and onion I can get with alchemy. The chicken and broth was the hard part but I was in luck with using Gar….

Anyway, we cured ourselves over the next few days. There was like one room we had left to explore.

It turned out to be a guard station of Garron Vosh’s men. Turns out they had traps and horrendous kill zone set up for the other direction.

Yarar asked them to surrender. They did. We searched them and stole anything good they had. (One of them had salt, chives and a bit of chili flakes. Woot!)

We finished the level and started heading out towards the stairs. While we passed the lizard folk, I told the shaman guy the back way to get to the Garron Vosh folks. Got help greeney out.. Good hunting boys.

We reach the stairs and check for traps on the door. Nothing. But the stairway was a deep pit. I used some spider silk to secure a line in case anyone had to get out. We head up when suddenly the stairs are galloping. It was trapped and dumped Tala down into a pit. That’s when a flying screeching harpy appeared with gargoyle minions.

I was disarming the first trap when Hawada and Zaci rushed up and triggered the next set. It was a chaotic fight in which we triggered traps and fought off the creatures. Thank goodness the harpy could not pull us towards her (the middle the stairwell was a pit.)

Zaci, Tala and Hawada made short work of the creatures when they got close enough.

We rested and went up the stairs.

When we got out we went down a hallway which lead into another enormous hall. The hall was L shaped with us at the vertex. One way along the hall lead to a boring door.

The other leg of the hall lead to two doors and a bunch of grotesque humanoid creatures bound to the walls. They were embedded into it and their maws were huge yawning portals to a black abyss.

We went that way. Go for the weird grotesque things every time. I swear our group if it came to an intersection that pointed one way to the janitors closet and the other towards certain doom, we would go with doom. Nothing boring for us.

We make it about halfway down when creatures pour out. Foulspawn creatures that were twisted aberrations from some insane plane of existence. There were Foulspawn Manglers with four whirling dagger arms, Foulspawn Berserkers with this confusion aura that causes those in melee with it to hit randomly other targets and finally the Foulspawn Grue who was a mental powerhouse of insanity.

The foulspawn could jump through the mouths of the grotesque statues who would complain of their hunger and would bite anything near it.

Our party was in disarray and we got scattered. I was in another room fighting the Grue and it suddenly became clear what our groups tactic was.

We were the hanged man. We lived through the paradox of being chaotic dumbasses. The worse off we were in a fight at the beginning the better we would finish. I knew now that if we ever did a fight right, that I would have to be a force of chaos and muck something up to bring the party away from the certainty of defeat into the land of plausible victory.

I knew at that very moment I was in the right party in the right plane of existence and that no matter what our chaotic style of flinging ourselves into combat would be the downfall of any law, order or tacticians meticulous planning.

We were agents of chaos, disorder and destruction.AOC… I would have to make patches, team jackets and probably camel saddles.

From there, I laughed in the face of danger. (I was also dazed, slowed, immobile, had mind worm and mind rot coursing through my brain.)

Zaci started teleporting and maneuvering the creatures into deft positions for Hawada and Tala to cut down while Yarar kept everyone alive. I tanked for the group and sucked up every possible ailment, malady and penalty I could.

We won.

And then we fed the statues and one of them vomited forth treasure.

Vomit treasure is the best.

Cleanup on Level 1, Pyramid of Shadows
Where the blue light special is lightening bolt!

As we had defeated the main villain, we went ahead and cleaned the rest of the level off. I forgot to enter this one and then went on vacation. So my information is a bit spotty.

Diary entry (written in Kelesh)

Well, we had killed the boss on this level but there was still a bauble to get for the elf crystal head girl thing. So we went exploring further into the pyramid of shadows.

We came across a water logged room in which there were some lizard people. Well, guess what… we negotiated with them. It’s like our team is afraid of water. I mean, I don’t bathe on general principle because it is bad for my skin. But humans dunk themselves all the time.

This time we just negotiated that we would skirt them. They agreed. We almost got into a fight anyway because Zaci started walking right towards them. I don’t think she understands but she smells like death. Monsters know these things.

I guess my singing was getting to Zaci because she kept casting silence on me. I didn’t think that was one of her spells. I thought only clerics could cast that. But anyway, in silence we looked for more adventure.

I was in the middle of an aria when we caught sight of our next prey: Garren Vosh. You will remember Garren Vosh was the dragonkin who lead an evil group of tomb raiders that were against Tala, Zaci and Sumna.

We fought Garren Vosh in this giant chamber of doors. It looked like they had made it their current out post for the tents and amenities were set up. They even had barred one of the doors.

The fight began with us charging into the room. And then his allies kept pouring out of every door. It was a crazy frantic fight but we buried them.

I was trying to come up with some crazy metaphor, simile, analogy or hypocatastasis. But that is the best I have for the tomb raiders.

Werewolf fight- We found a barred door when we fought Garren Vosh and his crew. I went to put a bomb on the door and did so when I heard… “Here piggy, piggy.” I mentioned to everyone else I heard someone talking when the door exploded.

Now I should mention, I put a clockwork bomb on the door and it was spectacular. The werewolf burst upon us and we fought this horrendous creature that kept healing or shrugging off everything we were doing to it.

But we won out. We piled on the damage until it stopped moving. Then I set it on fire. Just to be sure. By the end, all of us had been scratched or bit by the creature. I am sure nothing bad was going to happen.

So we went searching for booty and found some good stuff.

Then we found a secret chamber with a treasure chest. It had a piece of essence from our weird elf crystal ball chicka.

And that was about all folks.

Pyramid of Shadows Level 1 Smackdown
Where the villain of the level is defeated

We find a bunch of plague rats, knowledge eaters and an Angry Kangaroo who is secretly Arat Karavakos.

Charlie – Yarar Azar, brother, deva warpriest (Leader), Sarenrae. Who went on saving the righteous with radiance.
Heidi – Hawada, kitsune scout (striker). Who went on a killing spree.
Wendy- Zaci, tiefling swordmage (guardian). Who went on a madcap teleporting marking race.
Dan M. – Sumna, tiefling Warlock Assassin (Striker/Controller). Who was out with food poisoning, again.
Ali – Tala Ananda, half giant Slayer (Striker). Who went on kill stealing.
Wade – Reza, elf druid (Controller/Striker). Who was sick with the plague.

Daniel- Abudari, goblin artificer (Leader). The dashing hero of our story who was the voice of moderation.

We were off to explore the rest of the first level that morning. It was a glorious indeterminate time of day. I made up some fresh lizardman stew which I labelled pork. Most of my compatriots ate with gusto. Unfortunately, Reza and Sumna were feeling a bit under the weather. Either from the morning stew or the Spicy Avatar Rolls (labelled chicken wrap) from the night before.

Plague Rats and fire bombs. We go to the first door and search it for traps. We detect none. So then we walk in and past this other door. I offer to put a bomb on it. As soon as I touch it, a trap springs. The doors slam open and bones start pouring all over us. It went right over my head but everyone else seemed hurt and immobilized. And then, the Plague Rats swarmed towards us. Surrounding our party. It looked hopeless….

And then I remembered I had a bomb. Sometimes, life gives you lemons, and sometimes it gives you bombs and plague rats. I threw bombs with cheerful glee and killed ten of them right off the bat.

You know, because I am like that. Well, this is the fight that I killed the most. I think I wiped out 12 of the 16 rats. This was my moment.

Now, I mention this because Hawada went and had a moment.

Library of Eaten Knowledge. We headed up and opened the next door. It was a vast library with a statue of the crystal head girl (an eladdrin, ex-wife of Karavokas). While the crystal head started freaking about the statue, the rest of us went inside. Zachi suddenly rad off between a row of books and we heard a ring of steel on steel. Then a void archer appeared on top of a book case and fired a rain of arrows upon our group.

We decided to split up. And then a void blade (eater of knowledge) came around a book case. Hawada ran up and stabbed it seventeen times in quick succession. Then she stomped on the corpse. She then lit it on fire with her torch.

More of these psionic void creatures appeared. Including one that threw a mind spell upon us. Bro Yo was running back and forth healing and I was having the damndest luck being stunned. Luckily, Hawada and Zaci saved us all. Hawada was running around maniacally stabbing things, whipping things and jumping on things. Tala mistakenly killed something of Hawada’s and I heard Hawada snarl like a mad ferret with rabies. She killed four of the six creatures that attacked us. With Tala and Zaci killing one each.

The key, the tapestry and the Angry Kangaroo. We entered a room with a giant trapped angel. I disarmed it and we moved in. There were two passages. I hung back as first one and then the other was explored. In the first room was food in crates on one wall and on the other a magical tapestry showing the lands outside.

The other room had a giant stone gazebo with a cryptic phrase written in Draconic. It was something about a key and freedom.

Suddenly, more void blades showed up. I was in the other room looking down the corridor when suddenly a void blade and Arat Karavokas appeared.

I shouted a warning but it was misheard. Tala said ‘Angry Kangaroo’ and Hawada said, ’No Abudari said Aspiring Killer." Finally, Bro Yo said, ’Abudari, keep the Ape King busy."

And it was me against two monsters. I hid between the legs of the first one. Threw bombs at the second and got harried by a sword of force for my troubles. I held them off for at least 6 seconds until Bro Yo came over and said ‘Oh, it is the big bad guy.’

Hawada, Zaci and Tala killed the void blades and then moved into the room. We surrounded the villain and began to stab him repeatedly. It was a glorious moment of comradeship.

We defeated the villain and he had a key. It had a strange inscription. It was something like it is the hardest but not the first.

I surmised that we would each get a key off of each of the Karavokas incarnations. Then we would be able to unlock the pyramid.

Now, we still have an entire other section to do. And we know from the crystal head that there is something important over there.

Front, Side and bottom of the Pyramid of Shadows
Reversals and Traps

We start systematically clearing out the bottom of the pyramid and realize we left a spot.

Charlie – Yarar Azar, brother, deva warpriest (Leader), Sarenrae. Ascendant brilliance.
Heidi – Hawada, kitsune scout (striker). Carefree death
Wendy- Zashi, tiefling swordmage (guardian). Esteemed Fighter
Dan M. – Sumna, tiefling Warlock Assassin (Striker/Controller). Galvanizing Heretic
Ali – Tala Ananda, half giant Slayer (Striker). Iconic Juggernaut
Wade – Reza, elf druid (Controller/Striker). Killing Lush

We continue with our toils within the pyramid of shadows with a meetup of our minds. In this case, we discussed why we didn’t kill the demons with Sumna. It was a meaningless exercise in resolving the differences between night and day.

However, we agreed that we would kill anything weaker than us. I am not sure what others pulled away from our team huddle but that is essentially what I got. If we could kill it, it was okay to kill it.

We started systematically going through the pyramids lowest floor and attempted to wipe it out.

As we were going back to an unexplored door, we sprung a trap. It was that room with the two deific statues. The statues had six of the seven evil gods except rovagug. Well, we met an avatar of rovagug and it was a rousing demonstration that if we could kill it, it was morally correct.

I think while the rest of us had fallen into a pit, Reza stayed topside and attempted to help. Weirdly, he was bitching and moaning about the rats or something. He seemed fine and I gave him a potion to settle his stomach (and cure the horrible wasting sickness he contracted).

After that we went through the door into a hall of mirrors. And a door across from us. So we approach the door and a flaming skull appears in the mirror and throws a fireball at us. And then these devil legionnaires open up on us. We fight and it looks like it is going to be a bad fight when Sumna calls for a parlay. We parlay and promise the devils that we will show them the way out if they let us pass.

They do. So uh, I guess we parlay with the enemy again. But I got a cool magical necklace out of it. I really wanted leg of legionnaire but that will be another night.

This opened round two of bickering with Sumna about letting the bad guys go. He basically said we were not strong enough to take them on. We should get more help.

We continued on and found the body of the annoying crystal woman elf. So we had a conversation about her previous marriage and she convinced us that she was sufficiently motivated in her divorce. That she was more powerful as a caster and we should reanimate her to be our ally. So we attempted to reunite her with her body only to find out it was a trap.

The crystal was sucked into this undead creature of immense power. And we had to carefully kill it without harming the crystal. We all did except Sumna. Poor Sumna. He used mind mojo to have the undead strike itself right in the crystal. Brilliant.

We went around and found the stair case leading up. But than Zashi logically conjoined that we needed to kill an aspect of the Karavokas on each level of the pyramid but had not. So we needed to go kill the Karavokas on this level. So now we are headed to the SW corner (the only area unexplored.)

And there you have it folks, straight from the goblins mouth.

Back to the Temple of Shadows
Chaos Exploration

We have cleared out a section of the temple and start into a new area of fun, excitement, harpies, demons, ice, zombies and cowardice.

Charlie – Yarar Azar, brother, deva warpriest (Leader), Sarenrae. Sun rising in the shadows.
Heidi – Hawada, kitsune scout (striker). Snugly death fox girl.
Wendy- Zashi, tiefling swordmage (guardian). Jedi.
Dan M. – Sumna, tiefling Warlock Assassin (Striker/Controller). When in doubt, set them on fire.
Ali – Tala Ananda, half giant Slayer (Striker). Titanic two-handed twizzling tart of turmoil.
Wade – Reza, elf druid (Controller/Striker). Tree hugging cuisinart of death.

We had finally secured a place for ourselves and had taken time to rest up. I served an amazing goblin family recipe of snails, tripe and rat tar tar. I had even found a nice cinnamon glaze for the rats.

Everything was going well until Hawada asked me what were the ingredients. I regaled her with the hunting, preparing and serving of the food when she started compulsively vomiting. At first, i thought she was giving me the traditional goblin vomitorium compliment when I remembered that was not a custom of her people, katapesh, humans or most folks.

Well, it got bad when Zashi also got sick with an amazingly perfect shot into the meal collection bucket. Realizing the sensitive nature of others stomachs I took action. Luckily, I had 5 ampules of Stomach Rx™ which I got Sumna, Tala, Reza and Yarar to take.

The next morning, Zashi and Hawada stayed back at basecamp while the rest of us went and explored. (OOC: Heidi and Wendy were out.)

We explored a new section. We found a section that had statues of six of the seven dark gods. We then came across a room filled with harpies and lizard men and rope bridges. The fight was much more challenging without Hawada, Zashi and Zashi.

I should point out that Sumna attempted to ‘negotiate’ with the harpies. He even tried to pimp me out to them. I really appreciate that he tried for me. He knows how hard I have been working lately. I really felt like the team has come together when Sumna is willing to be my wingman for the gurrls.

We learned from the harpies that one direction led to the Ettin (our first encounter in the labyrinth) and the other direction led to a DEMON. Sweet! We are so like real adventurers after we bag our first demon.

So we go to the next room and it split. into a bunch of options. One opens to a room where the crystal woman (head in a crystal) says her body is. That we could reunite her soul to her body. That she would help us and be all buddy. We also learned that she is the wife of the guy imprisoned here. What a divorce! Looks like she got her alimony as a giant crystal.

Anyway, the other room was frosted over. We went in and it froze behind us as Corpsicles exploded out of their icy prisons. It got so suddenly cold but Yar put up the Sarenrae protective mojo that stopped us from freezing to death.

Reza seemed to really find a groove and pounced from one cold zombie to the next. Soon the whole group of them was dead.

The freeze locker led to another room which had the demon. And what did we do? We ‘negotiated’ with the demon. Letting him go.

So disappointed. So very disappointed.

I made a secret vow that I would eat demon before we left the Pyramid of Shadows.

Diary entry (written in Kelesh)

We find ourselves at a crossroads of four main corridors with many branches. So we consult the smart ass orb of spotty knowledge. We shake it up a bit and it gives us the fortune of ‘maybe’.

After that we actually ask it questions. We find that this large pyramid has one exit to the next level of the pyramid and it is in the NW corner. And that we are not powerful enough to go that direction.

So I say…. go SE corner and see what is there. By the Monsters Guide to Dungeon Building, ‘…. in that event, that there is only one path to freedom seed the strongest monsters along that path while placing the weakest the furthest away.’ I remember Blood Hawkers Guide to Evil Temples also had a similar axiom.

We went SE and ignored all other side corridors. Hell, we didn’t even look down them least we be tempted. This led us to a hedge maze. And i have to say I love the classics.

It was all green and stuff with a giant Boar in the middle. He had some spriggans and plant people hiding that ambushed us. It was fun.

We killed everything and set it on fire. I have to say that my party is coming along well and I really appreciate how they are appreciating my diplomacy techniques.

We found a way out of the maze and it led to a door where there was a note. We could negotiate with the ‘Forest Lord’ by knocking. We had a fast discussion and realized that we were going to have a scorched temple policy.

We opened the door and set them on fire. You might see a theme here. We fought shambling mounds, a satyr and more plant creatures. It was so fun to just kill everything with fire.

I have thought about Sarenrae and how I love that she is so full of fire. I think she really gets me. I am thankful for my brother who also likes to set indigenous races on fire. Tala likewise really gets the idea of appreciating other cultures and setting them on fire. Reza was even cackling like logs on fire as he killed everything. I really need to work on Sumna, Zaci and Hawada on the fire for everyone band wagon.

I may have to compose a song.

Diary entry (written in Kelesh)

It was a normal day in Kelmarane and nothing odd was going on. I was taking a shift, pushing food up at the tannery when Neth ran up. He was sweating and weezing slightly from the exertion. “Boss, boss, a rider came.”

“Yes, Neth, they do that.”

“No, he was all hurt and stuff. And has important messages.”

“Yes, Neth, many riders bare messages and injuries.”

“But Boss, he was asking after you.”

“Try to lead with that next time.”

He told me quickly how this rider had barely escaped from Garren Vosh, a dragonmarked robber of cultural artifacts. (Which is completely different than Tala who is a collector of cultural artifacts through robbery.)

So I headed up to the battlemart top level to Almah’s office. And the whole crew was there.

Also Almah, some guards and this new guy. He was a priest of somesuch with a marking on his head. He was all pompous and sanctified and stuff.

The crew questioned him and learned he had a map that he must give us so that we can go question this trapped wizard Karavokas. This wizard was a lieutenant of Nex or Geb. Nex and Geb are those two bad ass wizards that created the mana wastes south of Katapesh. The north country is Nex and the southern is Geb. These two countries/wizards had practiced wish magic and it got out of control. Anyway, this wizard had made a deal with a mysterious djinn.

And somehow broke the deal with the myserious Djinn and wound up in a supernatural prison for eternity.

Now, we knew that the evil Djinn had been working these lands and that it is most likely the djinn that granted power to the carrion king (king of the gnolls). He was our enemy and this was someone that had personal dealings with him.

Now this nice messenger had been jumped Garron Vosh who stole the original map. Luckily this guy could recreate it.

Our mission was clear, we had to stop anyone from dealing with this imprisoned wizard Karavokas and then thuggery the wizard Karavokas for information on the mysterious Djinn.

So what does our party do? Discuss the merit of whether to go or not. Our lead in this discussion of self interest is Sumna. So we dither. And dither some more.

Finally, Azar has us direction with… we are going.

And with that, we get the band back together.

I got us some camels. I got this deal with Ahkmed for Camels in exchange for katamite pesh. Great deal.

Anyway, we headed out into the dessert with a map and a vague sense of where to go. Feeling the urgency of following the bad men.

We arrived near dusk to see a camp a few hills away. We slowed down. Dismounted and Reza went to go take a look. Really, our whole group went to take a look but I hung back. Turns out Garren Vosh had left seven behind with a few human guards and the camels. Oh, there was also a rage drake.

Our group stealthily backed up and then strangely a bolt of lightening crashed into that distant camp. Turns out that something took out five horses and all the humans. I finished off the two horses and collected the extra camels.

While I was getting our camels tethered and staked while we would be inside, the group found a caern of stones and spoke to this translucent floating guardian. They had found the entrance to the Pyramid of Shadows.

Well, Tala went and grabbed me after Sumna and Zachi went in. And slowly we all went in…. A voice gave a villain monologue about having to be killed three times. It was Karavokas.

And found ourselves in a huge pit of carrion bodies. Humans, dwarves, elves, halflings and others torn asunder.

Outside the pit was a giant ettin and it’s gor’dual muck golem. And with us? two Carrion crawlers.

Thus the epic battle ensued.

Reza and I paired up on the Carrion crawlers. Zachi and Sumna took on the ettin. Tala bounced around killing anything that wandered within her path. Yarar was granting these cool shield bonuses and healing people. Hawada seemed to have the most trouble. I think the walls and slime really got her off center.

Anyway, we prevailed. Killed everything and got out of the pit. There we found heads mounted to the walls. And a bag. And inside the bag?

A mouthy crystal that wanted us to help it escape the Pyramid of Shadows.

We talked to it for a bit and decided to let it join us. Turns out to be some sort of artifact.

Now we are going to go in and kill this Karavokas three times as he is separated into three parts.

Diary entry (written in Kelesh)

It was the fifth day of the red star and Tala came in with an adventure. Now, she always has these adventures but this time it was at the tavern and we were all there. Except Hawada, she had written a letter that she was coming back to Kelmarane and enjoyed the vulture yellow curry recipe.

Sumna perked up (which is to say his eyebrow rose minutely) and spoke slowly ‘Is it to the Green Temple of Avarreo?’

Tala looked down at a curled map in hand and looked at it briefly. “Maybe, my stalwart companion. Maybe. I have a map to the treasure of the Red Crusaders of Yagoshi.”

Now I was engaged in a game of stones with Bro. But Tala went over to Sumna and they compared map to a set of notes that he had. They were intently conferring when Reza walked in.

“Hey.” Reza said in that way he does. It was followed with the long fingered hand gesture to pay attention.

“I have a lead on a lost chest of utagawa architects. I need a group.” It was said in the soft tones of fact.

“My tall androgenous friend, we may be going to two other adventurers to liberate primitive and dead cultures of interesting doo dads and artifacts.”

Sumna looked up. “Come look at our map. Let us see which treasure is closest.”

Bro looked up from the board. “Want to bet they are all the same place?”

I responded quietly, “No way. You’re on. A gold says it is at least two different places.”

We went back to the game and in a moment, Tala declared “We go to the Green Temple of Avarreo for a lost chest of utagawa architects to the treasure of the Red Crusaders of Yagoshi. Or something like that. Will you join your holy scimitar to our cause priest? Will you join us our very destructive green diminutive friend?”

I slid the coin across to Yarar. “Sure thing, Tala. I have a new green sausage that should be a great travel food. I call them green logs. After I test it out on all of us, I will start mass producing them.”

Azar stood without really answering and said, “I have to go get foo… holy supplies.”

And thus we left…

We were out there for a few days when finally Reza spotted the ruins. We started moving in when suddenly we were beset by bandits.

It was a huge fight with Bandits. They recognized me, of course. Thought they were rescuing me from Tala. They followed the god of death and strife so it was like, holy bandits of death.

Anyway, it took us most of the night but we prevailed. Taught those bandits a final lesson.

Oh. And Tala got the jade statue of Avarreo. Zachi got a medallion of unholy might. Sumna got a forbidden text on left handed sorcery. Reza got a ju ju bag of death. Yarar got a scroll of sun meditations.

And I got a log. A green log.

Diary entry (written in Kelesh)

Gobs, I mean I realize I was busy but I didn’t realize I was that busy.

I think the last time I wrote anything was right after that whole kill the ancient evil in the crypt adventure. I mean that was nail biting and horn quivering but we killed it. I mean, we are the heroes.

But what happened next?

Everything. We had freed the town and suddenly it was a swift change of gears. We went from being on the fear of constant death to sudden stillness. There is a lot to be said for the world stopping for a moment but like anything, the moment passes. When it does, you realize that you have to FEED yourself.

I helped with the reclamation of Kelmarane. I was there from day 1 of liberation to getting the town back up and running. And I wrote to my cousins Nunzio, Gerger and Tonz to get the clan out this way. There was a new batch of kids that needed jobs and I had work.

That’s how I started up my dream… MEALS and HEALS on WHEELS. I had that first push cart up and going on Liberation day 12. It was glorious. I had gotten some fresh cat errr…. pheasant from nearby. And I started up the first three delicacies…

And that doesn’t even include the Goblin only cuisine.

By month two, I had 12 workers and 6 carts. I was expecting another 8 coming in. And then I realized that I needed more revenue streams to cover my overhead and launder my coin but I also needed to keep abreast of what the others were up to.

Reza went out adventuring. Becoming a local guide to adventure. Seemed to organize one or two forays into the mountains. He/she/it seemed to also become more meditative after being freed. Working on communing with the world around it. In some ways, I think this year benefited Reza the most.

Sumna and his sister Zachi were working on restoring the shrine of Nethys. They also were organizing expeditions to gather important historical loot from ruins and dungeons nearby. I heard they had some trouble but they always seemed to come back intact with less people they went out with.

Tala was off adventuring on behalf of the pathfinder society. I think she went and got the eye of K’thutlugh from a nearby tribe of aquatic hunters. She told this great story about a trident, a fish as large as a house and this underwater city of Riley.

Hawada left to her old tribe. Turns out she wasn’t actually a halfling but rather a half sized hengeyokai kitsune. So she is both bigger and more of a fox. Yowza. Anyway, I heard she was doing gladiatorial pit fighting against gnolls.

I had a dustup with a Gnome in month four. He tried to muscle in my territory. I made him realize that if you are shorter than a dwarf, you answer to me. Fucking gnomes. Anyway, he made it to the goblin portion of the menu.

Started working on more alchemy with Zastoran. Making sure we play nice and fair. I had to pay taxes now to Almah monthly. She is fair and is giving me a fair deal.

Opened up two new revenue streams built as one.

Camel and Yak wash. We are basically acting as a stablery. Taking the camels in. Washing them down with fine sand and making sure they are hydrated. Turns out Goblins are good with Camels. They favor us with the most spit.

In addition, we give a specific list of what came off the camels or goes onto them. We then pass this to Almah and I pass it on again to the Dusk Market. And for the right price, we take items off the camels and relocate them past the authorities.

I tried the whore house approach but it didn’t work out so well. None of the larger folks like green. Eh, I still enjoy the benefits of prima nocturne for any new goblins that arrive.

By month 10, i have the empire filled out and have good working relationships with

I started training Nunzio and Tonz on the alchemy side. Making them simple picture glyphs of how to concoct things. Gerger is still head chef and has Iz as chief maintenance on the carts.

I need a good lieutenant to run things while I focus on the big picture. I am thinking of making an offer to the Vex or Ziki.

Anyway, back to the grind.

Abudari, the heretic

Diary entry (written in Kelesh)

I gotta say Hawada was completely out of it this entry. It was like she wasn’t there. Perhaps food poisoning. If she had only listened to me about that dubious chutney.

We had slept at the monastery and recovered from the first major push. Later, we would find out that sleeping on consecrated ground was rather a good thing.

We made a report of our activities to Almah and the Big G. Dashki was paid for his scouting and he told us the Peryton fled like a little… ram/goat/person. Hmmm. Something vaguely insulting to Perytons needs to be researched.

We had three things left apparently. First, was to kill the black mamba for breakfast. Then kill the tentacle beast in the pesh fields. Finally, there was an ancient evil locked up in the basement of the Sarenrae church of Kelmarane. And Almah gave us the key. To open up the locked up evil and kill it. With appropriate suppositions that it was weaker for having spent 20 years in a hole.

That was reassuring but then again we are sterling examples of chivalry and nobility in the name of Sarenrae. Well, except Sumna and Zashi, they are just kinda tagalongs. And I guess Reza is that anti hero with evil cackling. And Hawadi is kinda vengeful gnoll killing spirit full of dark memories. But the rest of us are definitely heroes of Sarenrae.

The black mamba was pretty damn easy. We waited until it was sunning in the glory of the fire goddess and then Reza made it sleep. Then we clubbed it to death in a very righteous manner except Hawada. She was off behind the shed and missed the signal for the righteous clubbing. I made sure to make a victory snake soup to fortify us against impending evil. Oh, and the soup was marvelous, I got this saffron rice with it and little dates in a lemon oil.

Back to the adventure.

We went after the creature in the Pesh fields. We had gotten a sacrificial goat to get the creatures attention. Man, you would not believe the bargaining I had to do to get a freaking goat.

We set ourselves in a semi circle around the sacrifice spot where Sacrifice the Goat was. I thought I was clever by standing on top of one of the summoning posts. We hit the summoning post into the ground and stayed still. Reza even levitated off the ground.

Suddenly a giant creature with a maw from the ground burst up. Tentacles going after all of us except Hawada and Reza. It was an epic battle.

It was drawing to grab us and draw us into the maw. Zashi almost went in she was so focused on hacking the creature. She was a wildcat going after it. Sumna is striking it with lightening and mystic sigils. Tala was methodically destroying the tentacles with her mind blade. Reza was cackling and hexing the creature. Preventing it from landing telling blows. Bro was healing the fighters and even managed some blows. I managed to hit it with the crossbow with Poison which I am sure sapped some of it’s strength.

Hawada must have gotten lost. She missed the fight. Showed up just after we killed it. She ran up with her knife out like it was dinner time. Bless her sweet heart.

We ate dinner. Rested up. Then went to Church to sanctify and destroy the evil.

There was the first level which was the fortified crypt and a well. The crypt required certain prayers and abjurations to be let in. BS took care of that. The creepy crypt opened and that cursed priest we had put down was laid to rest with his brothers. It was very touching. Then the crypt sealed up leaving us next to the well.

You know it is bad when there is a gong next to the well. BS rings the gong and super duper Angel-inators show up hovering in air. They will make sure nothing gets out in case we fail. Joy.

So I go first into the well. Hawada was kinda out of it still. I was on point for traps. We get to the bottom of the well, open a portcullis and pass a bunch of niches with corpses. I turn the corner and see a massive double door with Sarenrae on it. The gold relief of Sarenrae had been marred and scratched out.

As I stepped around the corner, the freaking corpses rose up scarring the crap out of me. Reza and I ran like bitches away from them. I ran into the room where there was this throne with Cardeswan on it. (Except it wasn’t.)

I was cowering in the corner. I heard BS striking the corpses down with holy power. Then Sumna comes in and the creature that looked like Cardeswan monologued. How he had lured us all here to free himself. How his eventual rise to conquer the world would ensue. That Sumna could destroy us and take his rightful place by his side. In my fear, I felt like this was it. Sumna would go evil.

I was cowering in the corner. And to my surprise Sumna strikes out with magic on the bad guy. Suddenly Tala is in there stabbing and cleaving. She gets bewitched by the creature but Zashi is there swinging and weaving and resisting the magic. The group really had the mojo going.

I was cowering in the corner. The monster has changed into this insectoid beast of evil and darkness. It is casting magic on them, hypnotizing them. And it makes a break for it. Reza breaks free from his initial fear and helps stop him.

The group finally manages to stop being enthralled and run the creature down before it can escape. It was epic nail biting last minute destruction of the monster near the well escape.

Even if it had gotten past us and out of the well, we still had our secret weapon ready. Hawada stayed up at the top of the well as our rear safety. Luckily she didn’t have to do anything.
